Wesley Mountain walked onto the The X Factor USA stage as a 19-year-old auto parts salesman with a big dream and an even bigger personality. Before he even started singing, he made everyone laugh by openly admitting he had a huge crush on judge Kelly Rowland, even walking over to kiss her hand. His playful confidence made for one of the audition’s most memorable moments, instantly grabbing the judges’ attention.
When the music began, Wesley performed “Wanted” by Hunter Hayes, surprising the panel with a warm, heartfelt country vocal. Despite his awkward and humorous introduction, his voice quickly changed the judges’ opinions. Demi Lovato joked that he went from “creepy to cute,” while Kelly Rowland praised his beautiful voice. Simon Cowell admitted that beneath Wesley’s unusual stage presence was a genuinely talented singer.
By the end of the audition, Wesley had turned an entertaining first impression into a successful performance, earning enough “yes” votes to move on in the competition. His audition became memorable not only because of his obvious admiration for Kelly Rowland, but also because he proved that first impressions can be misleading. Wesley left the stage with a smile, having delivered one of the most talked-about auditions of the season.
